N3 Toll Concession (Pty) Ltd (N3TC) is a holding within the Futuregrowth Development Equity Fund. The folk at N3TC believe that the work done behind the scenes is as important as the public achievements for which the company is known. Coupled with this, they consider that their responsibility as a company extends beyond the borders and users of the N3 toll road, to the communities that reside along the entire corridor. This means that the lives of individuals and groups touched by N3TC on a day-to-day basis are vast.
N3TC's Socio-Economic Development programme aims to make a meaningful and sustainable difference, and has matured over the years into a well-oiled machine. The programme receives steadfast support from N3TC's management and board and selfless effort on the part of N3TC staff ‘champions’.
The choice of projects is approached strategically stretches across the spectrum of HIV/AIDS, child welfare, community events, conservation, enterprise development, road safety, sponsorships, bursaries and youth development, and more.
A high degree of importance is placed on education as a tool to kick-start a better future for many, not only the learners and students involved, and as the platform from which mass socio-economic upliftment can flow.
More than 70 projects were supported over the past year, to name a few:
- Meals on Wheels Cycle Event
- Maluti Child Care Project
- N3TC Khanyisile Trust
- Topsy Foundation
- Drakensberg Boys Choir School
- Bruntville Primary School Computer Training
- KZN Crane Foundation
- Midmar Mile
- Vula Maths and Science programme
- Owl Box project
- Music Voyage
- Trucking Wellness
- N3 Gateway Tourism Association
The beneficiaries are encouraged to take the assistance provided by the company, and to go out into their communities and pass it on.
The large portfolio requires ongoing monitoring, evaluation, support and encouragement from N3TC, but this is a job that its staff relish and embrace. They know that they cannot help everyone, but consider that everyone can help someone - and this is the foundation on which the Touching Lives programme thrives.
