Thavhanacle Ultra-physio Sport (TUPS) is one of South Africa’s newest home-grown sporting codes, inspired by local indigenous forms of recreation, and is recognised as an indigenous sport by the Limpopo Department of Sport Arts and Culture.

Thavhanacle Ultra-physio Sport (TUPS) is one of South Africa’s newest home-grown sporting codes, inspired by local indigenous forms of recreation, and is recognised as an indigenous sport by the Limpopo Department of Sport Arts and Culture.

Our Marble Hall farm currently has a team of more than 17 farm workers participating in this sport. The sport is a fast-paced game that resembles handball on a circular field 60m wide, that resembles a hillock with a “crown”  on top. The objective to hit the crown in the middle. There are 12 players-a-side, and men and women can play together on an equal basis.

The name derives from the sport’s two most important elements: thavha and nacle. The word ‘thavha’ means mountain in Tshivenda, while ‘nacle’ is short for the biblical tabernacle and refers to the crown. A player is not allowed to hold the ball for more than five seconds – and may neither bounce nor kick it. But acrobatic ball throwing and catching stunts are allowed.

Apart from the fitness aspect of this competitive activity, the TUPS Sport Federation’s main objectives are to provide the local and neighbouring communities with a vehicle for social cohesion, dialogue and recreation. It also aligns itself with local social initiatives and events, such as the Outreach Tournament against Alcohol Abuse, which is one of many projects raising awareness on substance and alcohol abuse, and, as such, provides a much-needed impetus for change in the farming communities.

SCAM ALERT!

We are aware of fraudulent communication being sent from an unknown person on WhatsApp, posing as a Futuregrowth business representative. The scam offers the recipient an array of fake investment opportunities with profits being generated through the trading of bio-diesel – all of which are not true. This is a scam, please ignore it.
